Before you even think of buying a hoverboard, read this

Whether you call them hoverboards, self-balancing scooter boards or explosions waiting to happen, these two-wheeled scooters are the hottest toys of the year.

Celebrities use them, they're a hit with kids and they're fun for just about anyone to ride, so there's a good chance someone you know wants one.

Despite their coolness, this tech fad has a dangerous side. The news has been peppered with reports of hoverboards exploding and catching fire. Cities are banning them from roads and sidewalks. Airlines won't let you bring them onto planes. Retailers such as Amazon and Overstock are stopping sales of some models or even telling consumers to trash ones they've already received.

iPhone 6s vs Nexus 6P

What is it people love about the iPhone? Well there seem to be a number of factors, but the most common seem to revolve around it being stylish with a premium build, it being part of the Apple brand (ie: the "cool", "must have" factor associated with it), it being intuitive and easy-to-use, and the fact that because Apple engineers the hardware and software to be optimised efficiently and to work seamlessly from top-to-bottom; that whole "it just works" mantra. Chromecast Review

TODO alt text

There wasn't much the original Chromecast could improve upon – it was versatile, reliable, easy to setup and dirt cheap. Despite not having much room for improvement, somehow, Google found a way.

Had you asked me two months ago what the original was missing, I would've said that it needed a few more compatible apps to round out the catalog and maybe a better app. But, considering its highly affordable sticker price, there wasn't much to complain about.

And now, these features are finally showing up on actual hardware. The first device to tick off all these boxes is the Nokia Lumia 1520, a 6-inch flagship with all of the trimmings we've been waiting to see on a Windows Phone device for three years now.

Samsung Gear VR

If you have a compatible Samsung phone, you have to get this.

What does the Gear VR feel like? Inside the headset, you have access to roughly an 80–90 degree field of view, which seems a little more narrow in comparison to the Oculus Rift, by about 10 degrees or so.

iPhone 6S review

TODO alt text

Apple's tagline for the iPhone 6S is 'the only thing that's changed is everything', highlighting that the brand knows this is a phone that looks an awful lot like last year's model.

It makes sense that Apple would try its hardest to show that, despite the handset looking identical to last year's model, there have been loads of changes under the hood that make this an attractive phone in its own right.

Google's inexpensive Android phone adapted for 2015

You can operate Google's compact Nexus 5X with one hand – and it has a smaller price, too, compared with the metal Nexus 6P. Its fingerprint sensor and USB-C port take some getting used to, but it's ultimately a future-proofed phone everywhere but its memory.
